One curiosity is that you don't get CD-TEXT playing Red Book CDs but you do get full text display playing MP3 CDs. If you can find a C-7030 at a reasonable price, an added benefit is very good playback of MP3 format CDs. Onkyo won't identify the new chip used, but after thorough research I think this is what they are using: Although at 14 pounds it's a heavy unit and seems well built, initially it seemed a bit brighter than I prefer but over time as it has broken in it strikes me as a very enjoyable CD player. I happened to acquire an almost-mint condition C-7030 at a thrift store, with a manufacture date of September 2016. At some point after the supply of Wolfson chips was exhausted, Onkyo switched to a more generic DAC chip which probably isn't quite as good. In 2014, Wolfson was acquired by Cirrus Logic and those Wolfson-designed chips were discontinued.

What are the prices for each of them? What condition are they each in? How much use/abuse does each have on them? Are they local where you can check and listen to them? Are there any kind of warranties one either of them? Have either been recently and properly serviced? Are their displays still bright (Note: on the Sony ES cd player I have the display has a dimmer on it and can be turned off a nice function to have as I always leave it on low to extend display life)?

I know that Sony has some older Owners Manuals available on their website for free. Check on HiFiengine to see if either have Service manuals listed and Owners manuals for that matter. I would think that parts may be easier to get for the Sony (like lasers) & may cost less. Do they have their original remotes and what condition are those in, any corrosion in the batt compartment?Дo you like the fact that you can load more than one disc for longer uninterupted music play (good for parties also). But being that it is not a cartrage type changer is much better.Д«eyond that look at the features, functions, condition and accessories. Nothing against them though, just not a fan.Д«ut being a changer adds to what can break and need fixing.

Plus i'm mot really a fan of Onkyo, never have been. I am biased twards the Sony, especially seeing as it is an ES model.
